Winter is coming!  So far it is mostly the clocks that show any winter time, but we can all feel the mornings getting colder, slowly but surely...

Mid term = checkpoint time

In school, this time of the year is a good  time to “zoom out” and see where you are - this goes for teachers as well as students. This of course has to do with students writing their reports and that SPT meetings are taking place in late October.

We at IES Järfälla, have worked hard to get our message through about the importance of feedback and it is great to see and hear students catching on to it. The students completed a survey recently where they were asked to rate the level of feedback they received so far. The answers were very positive across the school, and a clear improvement from the results on the same questions in the spring.

The SPT meetings went well, and we would like to thank all of you as well as ourselves for making the best out of these digital meetings. We were also happy to see so many parents using our new digital subject teacher booking.

Quality visit

Our school has had a quality visit from IES head office. For a full day they visited classes, talked with staff and had meetings with management. They summarised the day in our school with very positive feedback regarding the atmosphere in classrooms and hallways, the clarity and professionalism amongst teachers in the lessons they visited as well as the positive vibes around our school motto Stronger Together.  We can but agree!

What is going on outside lessons?

A lot! Our clubs are running at full speed, we have the music club with Mr Andrews, the Warhammer club with Mr Peach, the International Culture club with Ms Eriksson and Ms Mchaite. The sports club with Mr Ersoy ran for 4 weeks, but is now pausing.

Next week we celebrate Barnboksveckan / Children’s book week, with many activities, both in- and outside of the lessons. Thursday is “Nationella läsdagen” which will be celebrated by a Book swap for both staff and students and also have Dress up Day as a book character. Quizzes and Drop and read will also take place, what an interesting week. Read more in detail on SchoolSoft.

The Fun Fridays continue, in October it had a Halloween twist! On the picture with the red frame named Halloween dress up you can see Ms. Barta and Mrs. Vermaak looking just right for the season.

We have also made a movie recently. The movie is showing our school to new students about to start here. The film has two conferenciers, our students from year 8, Elton Stålspets and Hannah Kinane. They did great and could probably run Melodifestivalen without any problem!

Our science department took part in  “The European Union Science Olympiad, a competition that gives students the opportunity to show their capabilities in natural sciences. From left: Luka Stevenson, Alex Soproni, Leif Sundqkvist.

On October 21:st our SO-department organised the UN-day. It was a great day with a lot of important and sometimes thought provoking content.

Wishing you all a healthy, and happy November!
