A creative autumn term at IESJ

A creative autumn term at IESJ

I was recently asked to summarise the autumn term in only one word and the word that came to me was "creative".

Our main focus has been the same as every year:

- to provide a calm and safe environment where teachers teach and students learn.

- to set high academic standards and make sure every student reach their full potential with the support of our excellent staff.

- to give our students a command of the English language, the key to the world.

This term we have had the opportunity to work on these with support from our AST's (förstelärare), HoD's and HoY's to develop our teaching even further.  We have through reading up on the latest research on education tried new ways to enhance learning to be able to reach every student at their level.

Our dedicated teachers and staff have with energy and determination taken on the task of developing their already brilliant teaching even more with the help of for example active learning and active lessons.

Our students all benefit from their creativity.

Now that we come to the end of the term I wish you all a relaxing break with the chance to read at least one good book and I welcome you all back again on the 9th of January 2019.

I wish you all a nice holiday,

Mrs Viljosson

The start of the academic year 18/19

Welcome to the academic year of 18/19 at IESJ.

We are happy to welcome old and new students to the academic year of 18/19.

Most of what will happen during this year is familiar to you all. Our main priority is the same as every year:

- to provide a calm and safe environment where teachers teach and students learn.

- to set high academic standards and make sure every student reach their full potential with the support of our excellent staff.

- to give our students a command of the English language, the key to the world.

Some things will be new to you all, and that's also how it should be. We strive to constantly evolve and get even better by listening to the feedback we get from students, staff and guardians. From last years anonymous feedback we know that:

- we deliver on our promise of a calm and safe school.

- lessons start on time.

- we expect peace and quiet.

- our school is garbage and graffiti free.

We will continue to work improving the school playground and a new parcour park will be in place this fall.

One of the bigger changes for this term is brought on by Skolverket and the change they have made to the curriculum regarding IT and programming. At our school we started working with adding programming, IT and source criticism already last year and we are all set to meet the new requirements.

PRAO, vocational training, is also a big change this year brought on by Skolverket where they have made 10 days of PRAO in years 8 and 9 mandatory for all schools. Here at IESJ we have always had 10 days of PRAO and therefore will not really feel the effect of this new legislation.

All in all we are in for an exciting academic year and we are looking forward to all that it has to offer.

Principal's Graduation Speech 2018

Class of 2018

Today marks the end of an era for all of you sitting here. Graduation, end of compulsory school and your last days at IESJ. But as you say farewell to the well known, your friends and teachers and close the door on your highschool years you also open the door to the future. A future that we know nothing about, yet.

At IESJ you have had the opportunity to learn and grow, to fail, try again and fail again and to constantly strive to learn more, be more, know more.

We will celebrated some of your results today but there is so much more to all of you then what can be shown here. You are 124 unique individuals, all with your own unique academic and social talents.

I have borrowed a quote from Steve Jobs that I feel really summarizes my hopes and dreams for you. In his commencement speech at Stanford university 2005 he said:

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”

I hope your years at IESJ, with the help of outstanding teachers and staff, have given you just that, the courage to follow your own heart and mind.

After having spent the last two years with you, and especially after our trip to Poland, I feel confident that our future has never looked as bright. You are curious, you are kind, you are brave and you are ready to take on the world and all that it has to offer.

Class of 2018 i wish you all the best for the future.

Happy 15th Birthday IESJ

Happy Birthday to all of us at Internationella Engelska Skolan Järfälla!

Yesterday Internationella Engelska Skolan Järfälla celebrated its 15th anniversary out on the school yard. We mingled, got a surprise visit from the ice-cream truck and took group pictures of us all to hang on our "wall of fame".

Our school has grown into a well known, respected and cherished establishment in Järfälla and we are proud of what we have accomplished in the 15 years we have been here. Over 1600 students have graduated from IESJ and we are so grateful for all the support we have received from their families and the community throughout the years.

We are now planning for, and looking forward to, the next 15 years. Our promise to the community stays the same; we will provide a calm and safe environment where teachers teach and students learn, set high academic standards and give our students command of the English language.

Towards the future,

Busy season

So much is going on at the school right now and the entire building is just buzzing with activity. Our yr 5’s have caterpillars waiting to transform into butterflies, Yr 6 (and 9) are writing their national tests, Yr 7 have started final preparations for their upcoming trip to Åland, Yr 8 plan and cook “Master Chef” meals for us to enjoy and Yr 9 make the most of their last few months here at our school.

This time of the year is also the time when we see a lot of extracurricular activities taking place, like the PTA gala, Spirit Days, IESJ World Cup to name but a few. It is extra important in this busy season to remember to not only work hard but also to take time to celebrate our growth and success.

As always it is a privilege to be principal of this outstanding school and I look forward to celebrating each student’s growth and development at the end of this academic year.

Welcome to spring term / vt-18

Spring term

Welcome to a new term at IESJ.

During the Christmas break we had some construction work done to our school with a rebuild of the assistant principals office and an addition of a second School Nurse's room.

Our permanent school nurse Mrs Karademir is back from her maternity leave and Mrs Osmanova is staying with us for the spring term which is a great addition to our student care team for the term.

In the Spring term we at IESJ have much to look forward to like our Winter Sports day, our Spirit day, our trips to Åland (yr 6) and Poland (yr 9) to name but a few.

Spring term also means National Tests and as we head into the test season I would like to take the opportunity to remind all our students of the support lessons that we have in each subject every week. Do take the opportunity to visit support and get help from your teachers to make sure you reach your full potential.

Welcome back,

Läsning i fokus:

/Sara Viljosson, rektor
